Teachers of TN: Chasity Lowery

I believe the best predictor of students’ success is the attitude and expectations teachers, administrators and parents have and communicate to students. Despite different backgrounds, living situations, academic deficits, and disabilities of students, maintaining high expectations is a must for all educators. Coming from an impoverished, single parent home, I am thankful for the teachers who maintained high expectations for me. I believe the high expectations of my mother and teachers are what helped me become the dynamic, data-driven, educator that I am today. The backgrounds of students are just that ‘back’ grounds; they are not the path forward for students. It is important that educators ensure, provide, and reinforce this in the classroom.”
