After less than a month on the job, Commissioner McQueen is ready to kick off a classroom tour across the state. Her plan is to connect with 10,000 Tennessee teachers, and she is committed to seeing as many classrooms as she can, talking with teachers, students, and administrators about their successes and struggles. As a former educator and teacher of teachers, she says her heart is never far from the classroom.
“I believe it is critical to listen to Tennessee teachers and engage them in policy discussions because they will be living it out in their classrooms. They need to be a significant voice in this discussion,” McQueen said.
She is kicking off the tour on Friday in her hometown of Clarksville, visiting four schools, two she attended growing up: Burt Elementary and Northeast High.
We look forward to sharing more tales from her Classroom Chronicles right here on the blog. Please check back for videos, photos, and posts from Commissioner McQueen as she meets with educators across the state. Maybe soon you’ll see her in your halls!
